Can't go to San Fran without a walk thru chinatown. Colorful displays, interesting architecture, paper lanterns over the walkways, great way to get in your steps.

More relaxed than SF chinatown and less busy. Streets are wide and not as crowded. The usual feel of Chinatown is there. Lots of restaurants and bakeries to choose from. Quite a few of Vietnamese ones as well.

I was on a two-day business trip to Oakland and after work, I looked for a Chinese restaurant so where else should I go? Chinatown... Whenever I eat at a Chinese restaurant, I always want to try two things - sweet and sour pork and...More

Double parked cars. Produce flowing from bins. Restaurants galore. What a mess!! Unlike the more famous Chinatown in San Francisco, Oakland is by far more dynamic and real and not touristy.

This is the place for all kinds of things. Oakland Chinatown is not focused on tourism and will probably never be. Tourists and all other non-Chinese are always welcome and are part of the scene. My family is regular at New Gold Medal restaurant on...More

This is not a touristy Chinatown at all. It is completely authentic. It is also misnamed as there are as many Vietnamese shops as Chinese.

Good food -- bit in the downtown area but had a lot of different shops. Gret place to have dinner and very good pricing!

Very low key, somewhat "worn" storefronts and restaurants; quality of specialties can be very mixed. Seems to be more Vietnamese than Chinese in cooking style. Highly recommend the very popular and more extensive Chinatown in downtown San Francisco.

Went here on the second day of Chinese New Year. Compared, to SF Chinatown, Oakland is more lax. Expect a lot of graffiti throughout the buildings; however, it gives It even more of an urban feeling. A lot of dim sum and Chinese bbq joints....More
