If your vehicle can handle a few potholes, this place is a must-visit. Came here in November, and it was completely empty. This VERY isolated sandy beach nestled between ancient redwoods and the mighty pacific will not disappoint.

This isn't the kind of beach that you see in the movies. It's an empty rugged beach where you can really experience nature. The roar of the waves and the sunsets are mesmerizing.

The sandy part of this beach stretches really far back; quite a walk to get to the ocean through deep, soft sand ~ (aka - a little strenuous). There was only one other person on the entire beach the day we were there, it was wild, empty and beautiful. The kids enjoyed running and playing in the sand.

A beautiful beach reached by a long, dusty drive down a very narrow road. The views of the ocean are amazing and the beach was totally deserted.

First of all to get to Fern Canyon would recommend a SUV/Truck as there were many potholes on the road and also a small stream about 1 ft depth of water you have to drive through. Your shoes/socks will get soaked if you plan on walking towards the shore, recommend bringing an extra pair or rainbows would be perfect. We... More

You might be tempted to just drive by Gold Bluffs on your way to Fern Canyon. But, my advice is to stop and enjoy the beach. There are so many cool rocks to discover while walking on the soft sand at the oceans edge. Turn around me there they are: the gold bluffs.

To get to beach you have to walk over swamp and there are hidden puddle. Some tourist put a log for future tourist to pass through puddle but you should have a good balance. Otherwise.... with the unstable log and unbalance .... you will fall into water ( like me). Fortunately I have changing cloth which I had to change... More

A vast beach but in comparison to many of the California/Oregon beaches very disappointing. Our rental car will never be the same again having been coated in dust,

This was the halfway point of a long hike. The ocean is beautiful. We were totally surprised to see an elk as we approached the ocean.
