Driving up a mountain with all the twists and turns, makes me extremely nervous! The first time I took Highway 74 up to Vista Point, I didn't know about all the turns, bicycle riders, etc so it was an interesting experience. The view is very nice but not worth the anxiety, in my opinion. SR & SJ mountains national monument... More

This is located at about 1000 feet elevation, so it lies about 800 feet above the surrounding valley. The drive up is very easy - but a few hundred yards further the route goes UP and UP. It has nice outdoor seating with plenty of shade - important in the desert. Good displays as well, and the place hosts various... More

The drive to the visitor center from Palm Desert is short but beautiful. The ranger was very helpful and gave us info about the drive to the top of the mountain and a color brochure for the nature walk behind the building. Lot of nice items to purchase too. Trail markers along with the brochure explained the flora of the... More

We did a beautiful hike up to San Jacinto. Do not underestimate the cold weather up top and lots of snow this year. Enjoyed a well deserved martini back at the restaurant at the aerial tram. 11 mile return hike

There is a wealth of great hiking available here, from a quick half hour loop just outside the victors center, to day long hikes up the Art Smith trail up to the oasis's and beyond.

Amazing view of the mountains driving up the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains on Hwy #74. Scenic lookouts at the top of the mountains.

We recently enjoyed a great visit here. The center sits at the top of the hill just as you're leaving the residential area and beginning to travel Hwy 74. From that height (1000 ft) the vista of the valley below are amazing! The museum/visitor center is visitor/user friendly and the staff were very helpful! We enjoyed the exhibits inside as well... This is a short moderate hike very close to the city. It is 2 1/2 miles loop with about 500 feet elevation gain. The flowers this year are the best I've seen anywhere. Such a variety of flowers that have been coming into bloom at different times during the month of March. We have done this hike about 8 times... More

After a warm and wet Season this, in late March, was the most spectacular dessert HIke my wife and I have ever done. The whole trail was lush with floers of every hue, including flowers on the cacti. Not too long a hike, with little gradient. We took our time and spent about 100 mins to do the loop. You... More
