We saw the (somewhat long) video about the National Monument. Urge all to see it, to put it in perspective with, for example, Joshua Tree National Park. The Visitor center is an oasis of calm, with easy nature walks of practically any distance you choose. Lots of birds, including hummingbirds, and flowering plants, even in January. Thought we'd breeze through... More

Can't beat the views on a clear blue sky day. Didn't have time to hike on this trip but it seemed to have many great options. Winding road is steep, take your time and enjoy.

The National Monument Visitors Center on Hwy 74 is definitely worth a stop, especially if you're new to the area. The volunteer and Rangers were quite helpful and suggested some hikes and gave us maps and reading material. We didn't watch the movie and there didn't seem to be much to see indoors, but we preferred to get outside anyway.... More

Great walks. Lots to see. Bring a camera. The colors are great in spring. If you are in Palm Springs you can be there in minutes. As you drive around the Terran changes. Same withy the time of the year.

This is a great way for visitors to experience the unadorned, yet very interesting desert of the Coachella Valley. The Henderson Trail is very manageable, and after a guided tour with one of the volunteer hike leaders, one comes away with all kinds of good information about desert flora and fauna. Check the schedule for guided hike days and times.

Fascinating hike with multiple knowledgeable volunteers. Relaxed pace. This hike involved some aspects that require a little bit of physical agility. About 2:45 of excellent learning with great opportunity to ask questions of the docents. Donations if you want--and who wouldn't?

We did a short hike in the scenic Santa Rosa Mountain area. There is both mountain and desert scenery.

We decided to join a guided tour on a beautiful and cool Saturday morning. Met the volunteers in the parking lot and registered. The group was split into two. Actually you got to choose which hike and we decided on the Dead Indian Canyon trail. Both were 3 mile hikes. Our hike took 2 1/2 hours, however this included many... More

We enjoyed an excellent tour with the trail volunteers at Santa Rosa and San Jacinto National Monument. For most of the year, a couple of days per week, the volunteers will lead a group of hikers into the valleys (and up a few of the hills) at this National Monument. We had 3 tour guides with our small group -... More

We are a couple of city slickers just getting our hiking legs going while staying in Palm Springs. The Henderson trail is a perfect training ground right at the visitors center. It's supposed to be a 2.9 mile loop, but there a couple of places you can peel off and shorten the trip if you'd like. Great desert landscape. Even... More
