If you're coming up from the west and can't make it to Mammoth and Devils Postpile, this is a good substitute. Forest Service has created a short walk to view a unique geological formation which will give an hour's enjoyment

We took the 1/4 mile hike to Columns of the Giants. There is an informational sign at the start of the trail. The forest walk is nice to take on the way to see the basalt columns.

So this is what the trees were like before logging. Its nce to see how things were before everything got cut down 100 years ago. Glad they kept this area intact.

I go to Column of the Giants often when I'm going up for an overnight camp at Sonora Pass with family. It's a nice little hike and the slabs of rock are pretty cool. If you're in the area, it's worth a visit. Note* If...More

Not far from the road. I think its accessible in the late spring, summer and fall. Check on winter. Make sure you bring a pack with snacks and plenty of water. The rock forms are neat to see.

Stop and give yourself a welcome break enjoying this sight.. Not worth a special trip, given how many stunning places are so close, but worth a stop if you are in the area. If you are relaxing, take a chair and settle down with a...More

Hello. We have been spending alot of time in the Stanislaus area lately. We love it. Haven't been to this section yet. Do you reccommend this area for whole family (small children and small dogs)? Any particular time of year safer for these smaller family members than another. Would love to hear your opinion. Thanks
