Find out what Placer mining is and learn about how the gold rush affected this area. Don't bother with the walking tour of Main Street. I'd rather look around inside the museum, because Main Street isn't anywhere near as interesting as this building.

This is a very small museum with some interesting collections from local residents. There is a brochure of historical buildings that is offered, as well, if one is interested in walking through the town.

Quick visit, quick stop! Small but very informative on the town's history. Really enjoyed. It's free, just gave a small donation to help out. Really sweet couple working there as well!

The building and interior furnishings and pictures were informative and the docents knowledgeable of the early years of Placerville. All seem to be from about 1850.

My friend and I stopped here on a quick getaway. We both love learning about local history and this place was a little gem. The volunteers were friendly and knowledgeable.

The 2 ladies manning the place were great. Educational, friendly and were even ready to be educated more. They can help miners trying to get educated on traditional mining districts and the area history.

Showed up to the museum late around 1 pm on a weekday. It was closed. Hours/days of operation were not posted. No one around town could tell us when to come back. No phone was listed. Disappointed. There was a cardboard clock face in the...More
