It's always nice to see local history, and the San Mateo County History museum is a nice place to spend an hour or two learning about the area. Situated in the old courthouse building in downtown Redwood City, the entrance is up the grand staircase to the building. The building itself is separated into different exhibits, with special rotating exhibits... More

Loved the old courthouse museum. It's a great source of history of our county and city. It took me down memory lane and makes me sad to see so much development and change in the city. It has a great docent and field trip guides for students, too. I love that you can rent the building or rooms, too, for... More

Extremely nice history of Bay Area. The story of people who settled this area and American/California dream. A lot of people haven't heard about it, but it's one of this underrated gem that is worth seeing. Been there two times.

It is so exciting to have a history museum downtown. It is a great place to take the kids. When you are there, you should visit the rotunda. It's incredible that it survived the 1907 earthquake. We bought a book on the history of Redwood City there a couple of years ago. The kids really enjoyed looking at the old... More

This museum is probably most interesting to San Mateo County residents (or someone interested in the local history). It has a good amount of information presented in a way that makes it interesting. The old courtroom and domed ceiling are very worth seeing.

Good place to spend a day for family with children. Learning about the history of San Mateo County. You can get free pass via Peninsula Library system. It's located in the heart of Redwood City downtown. Lots of venues for food and shopping.

Nice quiet leisurely visit to a place I had never visited in almost 30 years of living in SM county. Nicely laid out, informative, good to find a free visit day for visiting.

This beautiful building houses a lovely museum that will interest adults and children alike. Don't miss the bookstore beneath the courthouse.

The museum is somewhat small but has a nice layout and history of the County. We were there for about an hour and were able to see most of the exhibits.

Although I went with a school group, I will go back when I'm in the area. It was really well done and interesting. The "flow" of the museum is very clear and they have fascinating historic items on display.
