We heard so many recommendations for "Old Sac" that we thought it might be the highlight of our visit. So perhaps our expectations were set too high but we were disappointed. The building facades are well worth seeing but when your first view is of three Tattoo parlours .. well not what we had hoped to see. Very touristy but... More

The underground tours are great. They need to provide more opportunities though because the evening tour is almost impossible to reserve. It is fun to spend the night in a room on the paddle boat, but be aware that the rooms are minuscule. The restaurants in Old Town are good and mostly local venues. Do not skip the railroad museum.... Old Sacramento is still great place to visit even for long-time Sacramento residents. Has several good restaurants and bar-scenes. There are couple comedy scenes and the usual tourist sites are still fun to browse through. The horse drawn carriages always enjoyable.

I have lived in Sacramento for over 30 years. Don't really go on the weekends, parking is not good, and it can get pricy, since you have to keep going back every 1 or so to feed the meter.

This is a fun place to visit. It's a historic old part of Sacramento. There are a lot of good places to eat and to see and do.

Family trip for a few days and we spent a considerable amount of time in Old Sacramento. It's a tourist trap for sure and unfortunately doesn't really spell out the early history of this city. There are some decent restaurants in Old Sac so finding something o eat isn't usually a problem. The Railroad Museum is a must see. This... More

The Railroad Museum is great for kids 2 and up Wonderful exhibits. 3rd floor heaven for kids with about 8 play tables and oodles of toy train exhibits. One caveat. The city can't get their parking act together. Parking meters from 10 am til 10 pm. Awful. Can't read them. Terrible. Ridiculous disincentive to go. We wanted to go for... More

I grew up in Sacramento and this area that was once skid row has been repurposed/gentrified into an Old West/ Gold Rush motif tourist attraction. The pros and cons: it's on the Sacramento River and there are dining/attractions (think railroad museum)/theater and the usual specialty shops/tourist shops. Would I come to Sacramento just to visit Old Sacramento? Probably not, but... More

Very near downtown and easy to access if staying downtown. I was heading to the Macy's downtown when I ended up in old town Sacramento. It reminded me of Barkerville with the older buildings and both were major players in the gold rush. Shops and restaurants throughout. Old blacksmith building, train museum, old schoolhouse. Free admission and nice to walk... More
