I live within less than half a day's travel from 3 of the greatest railroad museums in the country but this museum would top them even if they were combined into one museum. This museum is a railroad Museum, a history of Railroading in the West Museum, a toy train museum, a hands-on children's museum, and an out door museum... More

This is a perfect place to go along with kids 10 yrs or below. They can see history of railroads & their making. This museum have a large collection of toy trains & a interactive 30 minutes movie. Steam engines & other cars like dinning car & sleeping coach are well preserved & gives a feel for history but if... More

The museum has been standard stop in Old Sacramento, for as long as I can remember. When you walk through the multiple displays of trains, you see the magnificent power of this great nation. The trains reflect a time when America's train works produced massive behemoth machines, that helped expand industrialization of the American landscape. Please stop and see one... More

The museum is not just for train anoraks. It concentrates on telling the story of building the western section of the first Transcontinental Railroad (The Central Pacific) and how this helped develop California. There is much about those who were behind the project and those (mainly Chinese) who did the difficult and dangerous work. The locomotives and cars are not... More

This is the best place to go to if you or your little one love trains. The tour guide Bob is the best. He has a lot of knowledge. Without a tour guide, this place is great too. Good for anyone. The best train museum I have been to throughout the world.

A lot of historical locomotives. If you love trains or history in general you will get a lot out of it. You can walk through a few of the train cars. There were several field trips there and model trains, so there is stuff for kids to enjoy. I tried the train simulation which was interesting, but a little less... More

it's been a number of years since we've visited here and it was nice to be back. This is probably one of the best museums, in general, that's I've been too. We came with my son's fourth grade school group and had about an hour to tour the facility. Since we were here last, they've added/modified a couple of attractions.... More

This museum is a must for train fans & a painless way to learn the history of "working on the railroad" for the rest of us. It's also a good choice to spend the rare rainy day in Old Sac. Our family enjoyed the great walk through dioramas, trains you could climb on & walk through, & gained a new... More
