Traveling from the east coast we hoped to catch a glimpse of Old Sacramento which was great to see some above ground but we were hoping for some underground perspective of what it as like before the city was lifted. Wish we had more time to see it all. Tremendous history here.

With only one day in town we walked through old town. This museum provides a history of the city focusing on the gold rush but also highlighting other demensions of the city inclduding the decison to revitalize the old town area (perviously pretty seedy)

If you are visiting and want to get a sense for what drove Sacramento to develop this is the perfect stop. You will find a nicely laid out small museum at the edge of Old Town Sacramento. The lower level is more or less a pass through but once you get to the top floor you are treated to a... More

While waiting for friends I ducked into the Sacramento History Museum. I have lived in Sacramento for more than 30 years and have never been curious about the local history. Yes, I know about the gold but not much more. So, I found this quaint museum very informative. There are quite a few areas devoted to kid activities; I guess... More

City museums are often overlooked by tourists but are often the best to get a real "feel" for a place, to understand the history & development of the city you are visiting. This museum delivers in spades! Don't miss this if you like history

We got to the Museum early so we could check it out before going on the underground old Sacramento tour. Our group of four was all by ourselves so we could ask a lot of questions and have a great dialogue with the guide. Well worth the money ($15) to learn about the founding of Sacramento and its trials and... More

This is a lovely site to wander around, they have organized tours for classes such as our 4th 5th and 6th grade class. The docents are fabulous, patient and very knowledgeable!

Well done and good lay out. Gold greed and speculation exhibit is great. Escalator is helpful. Other tours of Old Sacramento can be booked thru the museum. Emigrant exhibit is interesting in relation to development of the area. This museum combined with the CRRM makes for historic day. Pun intended.

Great displays of all phases of rural and industrial life in California. Really nice display of early agricultural machines and even printing presses and type setting machine for early Sacramento Bee. Small museum but worth look in old Sacramento.

I didn't spend much time in this place but it has quite allot of history of Sacramento. If you are interested in Gold panning, and other things that created Sacramento, this is your place.
