Went to this area in April of 2017 to view the spectacular wildflower bloom. Only saw Soda Lake from afar since we were there only for a half day, so I cannot say much about Soda Lake. Facilities at Carrizo Plain National Monument are very...More

This year's spring bloom was pretty spectacular because of the rains. Miles and miles of yellow flowers. It s a very hot place in the summer months. Otherwise, outside of the bloom, it's rather deserted. Good for cyclng with low traffic. There is a rock...More

Soda Lake is large (for this part of California) but shallow lake at the north end of the Carrizo Plain National Monument. You can walk to the lake edge which may be muddy. There is an overlook across the road. Wild flowers. These are well...More

There was water in the lake that showed the reflections of the flowers. The flowers were so pretty. It was well worth the drive.

With a name like Soda Lake you know what is in store- salt. Anybody who reviewed this place in the negative was obviously expecting Disneyland. Its not, and thats what makes it awesome for tranauility seekers. It's nature - pure and raw and beautiful.

I've been to Soda Lake several times over the years and have enjoyed it every time. There is an overlook on a nearby hill (restroom facilities) which is a must-do. Be sure to also walk along the shore boardwalk. The lake is an Audubon "Important...More

It is a longer drive but make sure you come in from Highway 166 end, I think a more interesting drive. The lake is very different for our area with many birds. It is also close the the San Andreas fault line, which is interesting...More
