We have visited nearly all of the California missions. Today, we were a tad late for the tour, but walked around the grounds. Then we opted to have dinner and went back after dark. Several homeless individuals were sleeping (or in sleeping bags) around the front of the mission. Made me a bit uncomfortable.

Small mission; not much to see. Parking is very difficult. There was a wedding event so we didn't get to see the chapel.

We had limited time but wanted to stop and see this Mission. We were late for the 11 am tour so waited for the 1.15 one (with Chuck) and he did an excellent job. One is always competing with the parking meter and have seen the meter maid give tickets so it is always wise to not default. Learned a bit about the mission and its activities.

We enjoyed our visit to both the Church and the Museum, the Mission Church is different from other missions both in shape and decoration. The museum was very interesting with many artifacts and interesting pictures.

This historic site is worth a visit, especially for those who love CA Mission and church history. Did you know that the mission was built here because they found an abundance of grizzly bears here (think creek flowing through it all with seasonal steelhead salmon). Check hours, the museum and gift shop were closed the 2 times we were in the center of town and near the mission, but we were able to visit the church and the grounds around it all.

It was unfortunate that when we were in the area that it was closed due to COVID. We were able to walk around the outside of it and hope to get back some day when we can see the inside. The area around it is very nice & lots of food places.

We did not see anything on the website indicating the mission is closed to the public. We wandered around the grounds and the garden. The garden is small and nothing like some other missions.

A little different to the other 14 we have seen in that is is L shaped.
Excellent tromp l'oeil all around and at back of the alter and beautiful mural work around the rest of the church, subtle but colourful. The way the pillar and windows have been mimicked is very clever.
The museum has a lot of information about the people, especially women and the women that were responsible for setting up the bells along the route.

We were visiting SLO and stopped by the Mission downtown. Gorgeous plaza and architectural building. Highly recommend if you are nearby!
