Mission Plaza is not only the nonpareil setting of downtown SLO but of the entire Central Coast. The gateway to the Plaza is now complete with the outstanding renewal of the 800 block of Monterey St. How many towns in California have a year round running creek, a nearly 250 year old original Mission and the best restaurants in town... Center of town plaza in front of the old mission. The jewel of downtown San Luis Obispo, Mission Plaza is home to several major community events such as Concerts in the Plaza, via dei Colori SLO, Children's Day in the Plaza, Taste of San Luis and many others. The Plaza is at the base of Mission San Luis Obispo de... More

Stumbled upon this after being at the Museum of Art. A short flight of stairs from street level to the banks of the San Luis Obispo Creek. On the opposite bank you could see the patios of different restaurants / bars. At the end of the pathway, the Mission Plaza. At the time, didn't realize that was the other side... More

The wife and I loved this area. Very enjoyable place to walk around before you go into the Mission. Bring quarters for street parking.

The plaza is right in front of the Mission. The Mission, like most of the CA missions, looks nice and is nicely maintained. The plaza is nice, with some benches and room for the kids to run around. But when we were there we noticed quite a few homeless people, belligerent people, and trash in the area. There is a... More

This is often a venue for festivities though is worth visiting on its own merit. Many restaurants and shops are in walking distance. You can picnic on the grounds as well as sit on the lawn of the amphiteatre. The Art Museum is close by as well as public bathrooms. The Mission is an active church and a fine example... More

Nice spot to hang around in the sun. Close to everything. No cars. Fun for kids by the creek! Right in front of the Mission.

Mission Plaza is a beautiful, quiet spot to visit while in SLO. Children enjoy climbing on the bear sculptures. There is a lovely view of the creek from the bridge. Check your calendar before visiting, because special events are often held here on weekends throughout the year.

This is a great place for the family to visit. While the plaza is not big for kids to run around, there are lots of activities, the mission, the museums, and the creek next to the mission are all the places for the family to spend the day.

Wonderful to take a walk around the Mission during the day or night. The creek makes fro a wonderful backdrop for a picnic or a stroll with family or friends. There are many restaurants in the area from which to enjoy the park like setting.
