A quick drive north of Hearst Castle is the Elephant Seal Rookery. There were easily more than 100 Elephant seals and sea lions basking in the sun on the beach. Viewing platforms provide great viewing access. Ample free parking. Spectacular coastal views. No crowds on...More

An amazing experience! Easy parking, a boardwalk gets you within a few feet of the seals. There are docents to give you lots of information and explain the behavior of the seals. You can spend a lot of time watching the seals.

Right off the Pacific Coast Highway, easy parking. Great views of the beach and the seals! Nice boardwalk gets you to within about 50 feet of them

A fantastic sight to see. It was windy and cold but it is well worth the trip just to see these animals in the wild. You will not be disappointed.

Again it is fabulous to see the smaller elephant seals just lying around basically doing nothing for all the day.

During our visit to the Central Coast of California, we decided to make a stop at the Elephant Seal Rookery, off Highway 1. Most of these animals were sleeping/resting on the shore, but there were a few actually IN the Pacific Ocean, play wrestling.

Query the Piedras Blancas website. This will link you to the Elephant Seal Rookery. Here you can determine what is going on when. In December and January, most of the mating and birthing takes place but there is something going on all year. Besides getting...More

The elephant seal rookery is a must on Highway 1 just north of Cambria and free! The walk is level and very accessible and some part of the population is always there. During May the females and their cubs lay about and the immature males...More

There are seals all year round. It just depends on the season as to whether you’ll see more males, females or yearlings. Look up their website for what is there different times of years
