This zoo with a view was once a posh estate owned by a coffee and tea merchant; now it's the lush domain of more than 500 animals representing 160 species. The pink stucco mansion that once presided over manicured lawns and gardens is gone—replaced by open-air habitats built for the less refined but still exacting tastes of giraffes, elephants, gibbons, snow leopards and gorillas. What hasn't changed is the surrounding scenery; the Pacific and Santa Ynez Mountains are just as spectacular as they were back when this was the setting for civilized galas instead of the wild antics of monkeys and meerkats.

Something of interest for the whole family, from Snakes and other small creatures of interest to the giraffes and other larger animals. Easy walking the paths are smooth and there is a small tram/train, but I have never taken it as the walk is so pleasant.

While visiting Santa Barbara we made it a point to visit the zoo. The zoo was located across the baseball field from out hotel. This zoo is one of the best I have ever visited, it was clean the grounds were beautiful and the animals were lively. We paid $8.00 to feed the giraffes, which was a treat for my... More

Admission charged. Built on a hill. Animal population was not real extensive but well thought out. The condor and eagle exhibit were nice. The elephant was amusing. Good place for young children. Lots of picnic areas. Would be OK if you had not been to one of the big zoos.

We like the SB Zoo so much , so even only being here for 7 months we bought an annual pass. We come frequently and like this little kids friendly place. If you are coming only once it is a little expensive, if you come more than 2 times with 3 kids like we have the membership is great.

This is a great place for all ages. Our kids loved it and so did we. The highlight of the day was feeding the Giraffes. They supply the food and the creatures come right up to you and take it out of your hands.

This zoo is easy to navigate and see all the animals. You can take time at each exhibit and really enjoy the surroundings. Don't miss the opportunity to feed the giraffes! The time and money is worth it! When do you get to do that?

Very pretty zoo. Nicely landscaped. Easy stroll to see all the animals. Perfect for families. I came to feed the giraffes....which lucky for me there was no long line. There is a cute train ride that is perfect for families with little kids. The flamingos seem to be extra pink in color. Not expensive. ... Although I was not happy... More

Really nice zoo. The habitats are not too large and there are many animals. It is a really nice walk through and a great place to take kids.

A relative small yet lovely and full of activities zoo. My grandkids enjoy feeding lettuce to the giraffes and watching the flamingos and elephants.
