Tours are by reservation only on Wednesdays and Saturdays for those 10 years & older. Admission for the 90-minute, Docent-led tours is $20 per person. Designated in 2009 as Santa Barbara's 4th National Historic Landmark, the Casa del Herrero, built in 1925, stands today as one of the finest examples of Spanish Colonial Revival architecture. The creative manifestation of St. Louis industrialist George Fox Steedman, Casa del Herrero (House of the Blacksmith) reflects the visionary passions of its 'dream team' of designers: reknowned architect, George Washington Smith, landscape architects Lockwood de Forest and Francis T. Underhill, and antiquarians Arthur Byne and Mildred Stapley, who also helped outfit the well-known Hearst Castle.

Thoroughly enjoyed the 1.5 hour tour. The mansion and grounds provided a unique glimpse into the life of this wealthy family. Not often one is able to see original furnishings still present. If you're so lucky to have Lynda as your docent, even better.

Led by an excellent docent, our tour was exactly 90 minutes long. To the minute. The interior of the home is full of notable European art and clever, subtle icons made by the owner. The gardens are beautiful and the final stop at the end...More

Due to renovations, poor planning on my part, and limited tour availability, it took me several years to see Casa del Herrero. What a gem! The property is beautiful and well kept inside and out. Larry our docent was a treat. Larry has a great...More

Beautifully maintained, interesting gardens and architecture. Tour guide, Jacque, was so very friendly, fun and informative during our two hour tour. FIVE stars all the way around. Bring your camera and comfortable walking shoes as some of grounds are uneven.

This is a very unique estate garden that is converted from the former home of George Steedman. A charming estate with a lovely garden, and Mr. Steedman's workshop.

This is by far one of the best tours showing the growing influence of Spanish architecture and home treasures. Built in 1925 and surviving the Santa Barbara earthquake one can tour a home that is fit for a king with emphasis on family. The home...More
