I love this place. It really gives you a feel for what it was like to live in Santa Barbara way back when. Super informative and beautiful buildings and outdoor areas.

An eye opener to the historical sites in Santa Barbara. It is located not far from State Street. It is the site of the last Spanish fortress. I found the place well taken care of. Some parts are not original bu has historic resources!

We preferred our self guided visit to El Presidio over our visit to Old Mission Santa Barbara. There were more informative plaques on display which helped us better understand the region's history. A visit to both Old Mission Santa Barbara and El Presidio is recommended. It was inspiring to see that volunteers are working to restore El Presidio for future... More

The heart of the Spanish conquest, the reconstruction of the buildings and the chapel are evocative. I like the suggestion of the walls that cross Santa Barbara Street to the other side reminding you of the many changes that have occurred since the Native American Chumash managed this territory.

El Presidio Real is a former military installation in Santa Barbara built by the Spanish in 1782 and of which only two buildings survive to date. The large building houses a beautiful chapel. You can self guide around these sites from the outside. It's hard to imagine what the Presidio looked like in it's glory day as most of the... More

The Presidio was an interesting stop on our walk around Santa Barbara. The structures are in good repair and along with the self guided tour give you a good sense of the history of the area.

One of only 4 Presidios build as a part of the Spanish occupation of Alta California which served as a governmental center for the area from San Luis Obispo to Los Angeles and housed military personnel to provide security for the Mission.

In the heart of an upscale part of Santa Barbara is El Presidio. El Presidio is an old fort from the late 1700's that the Spanish built. It was a hot day when we visited and it is amazing how the adobe walls kept the inside cooler than many air conditioned, modern houses. You can see how the early Spanish... More

I love history so it was great to walk through and learn the history of this building. That we saw a building originally built in early 1800's was so interesting to see the old adobe building.

My wife and I had looked forward to this visit because we had a great experience in Monterey's equivalent area. The short version is that this place is not worthy of being described as an historic park. Some of the exhibits are obviously faked replicas, the place is untidy and scruffy and the overall impression is a lack of care.... More
