Giving one start for the approach and customer service.

Long story short, 5 of us booked for a rafting session on 17th morning 9 am through their website at 2am on the 16th. We received a confirmation email asking us to be there at 8:55 am. We arrived at 8:50 am to be greeted with a "Congratulations for being super early for your session!" by Mr. Jason who said the arrival time was 8:45am. An apology followed after we pointed out the time mentioned on the email - he pulled it up on his side to double check.

He had another apology for us as he said the system had failed to assign a guide to us even though it had taken our reservation and asked us if we were open to re-scheduling our session to 13:30 the same day which we agreed to without any push back. We asked him if it would be fine if were back by 2pm instead as we have to move our Kayaking plan forward. "I can even take you if you are here by 4pm! Just make sure you come before 6pm, my dinner time!" was the response. Told him we will be there by 13:30 and if not, we will call and inform them beforehand.

Rescheduled our entire day, and called them to let them know we will be there by 13:45. This time it was the manager who simply said he is not accountable for promises made by "other" people. No apology, was extremely rude and said he will "try to process a refund", no offer to come the next day, nothing.

- They have a booking system that takes reservations when it should not - thereby defeating the purpose of online booking.
- A guide who only seem to speak sarcasm. Even now, we are not sure if his promise to take us for an afternoon session was sarcasm or not.
- A manager who does not want to own up to the promises his employees make.
- A simple apology and cancellation in the morning when we arrived for the first session would have saved everyone time and energy. We were a pretty weak group - did not even push back when he asked us to shuffle our schedule for a mess up by their system lol.

Overall, terrible service. A couple of people had travelled from AZ and MI so everyone was a bit disappointed. Maybe these are nice people and our experience was a one off. At least that is what I want to believe. Good luck.

Can’t say enough great things about how amazing our rafting guide Evan was. He took us through some serious white water but we had complete confidence in him. Not only was the path the guided us through fun & exhilarating, but we were also so impressed with his knowledge of the area, the history, the trees and the animals. He’s just an all around amazing person, we had the best time, and we couldn’t recommend him more.

Had a great time! Be semi-fit, be ready to get wet. Our guide Evan knows every rock in the river, a story about each bend and run.

I went on a IRIE rafting trip last week that someone in my extended family planned for a family reunion involving grandparents and children. It was horrible judgement on his part, and I warn anyone thinking this is safe for the whole family to think again.

First off, if you ask IRIE guides how many people fall out of the boats during the trips, they will not answer you directly. Instead, they will give you a non-answer like "it's all what you make of it". That means that it's fairly common that people are coming out of the boat, and according to IRIE, it's all your fault.

Next off, they don't vet at all who they put in their boats or whether those people are physically able to carry out the instructions of the guides. There were 3 adults in my boat in addition to the IRIE guide and my young son. For the 3 adults in the boat, it was me, a woman in her late 70's who had no real strength to power the boat, and a man who is nearly 100% deaf so in many cases, he would do the opposite of what the guide was calling out for instructions (like rowing forward instead of back, etc). As for me, I'm in very average shape and certainly not able to compensate for others with limitations. Then there was my 6 year old son and the guide. Our guide was very professional and clearly qualified, but again, I don't think we should have been cleared to go out as a group with these very obvious limitations.

This was a class II / III trip, which is totally inappropriate for novices and children. While I don't think I would ever do this again, the only trip I would recommend for families would be a class I trip if at all. When we got to the class III part of the trip, all the adult passengers on our boat were ejected as we could not provide the power our guide was asking us to provide despite our best efforts.

Going into the water was so fast that all I remember was being underwater and not being sure I would ever reach the surface. It was truly terrifying. When I did surface, I am told that I hit a rock and spun out further from the boat. Other boats were coming at me super fast and I thought I was going to get hit by one of them or pulled under again. I saw another boat nearby, and I can just remember begging the guide "please help me" over and over again. I cannot imagine how this is anyone's idea of family fun.

While all the adults went overboard, the guide was fortunately able to hold my 6 year old son down in the boat so that he did not get ejected. I cannot even begin to imagine what that would have been like if he went over. And the idea that it was a very likely possibility is, again, truly terrifying.

After the trip ended, as we were heading back to the IRIE center in the shuttle bus, my knee started throbbing with pain, and I realized it had probably twisted when I came out of the boat (as you are instructed to wedge your feet into the boat pretty tightly to avoid falling out), which explains why my right shoe came off immediately when I hit the water. I likely tore my meniscus (seeing a specialist tomorrow to find out more), and guessing there will be significant costs related to rehabilitating my knee that will not be covered by my insurance (assuming that I will ever be able to fully rehabilitate it).

So, overall, would warn families or novices to beware of a trip like this. Simply not worth the risks.
