Let's start with a little history. The City of 10,000 Buddhas was originally a psychiatric hospital that was shut down during the presidency of Ronald Regan. Since then it closed and was sold to the international Buddhist community for $1.00. Its has taken some time...More

When we stopped by it was pretty deserted. I expected these exceptional gardens. But they had small little places here and there with ponds. The interesting thing here were the peacocks... crazy birds got all wound up when a delivery truck would drive in. It...More

I'm mostly vegan at home, but it's hard to find good vegan food on the road. This place is very humble but serves up some very good vegan food. Plus, it's an interesting place to stop at. Drive through the ornate gates and sign in...More

The moment you pass through the massive entrance to this "city" you're in another world. Formerly a state hospital, this Buddhist center has been here for many years. There's a university, boys' and girls' schools, living quarters for the residents, several meditation halls, a museum,...More

We had heard from our local friends that it had a great vegetarian restaurant. We were not at all disappointed in the wide variety of excellent dishes, which were reasonably priced.

If you want a vegetarian meal in a simple, serene environment dine at the restaurant at "City of Ten Thousand Buddhas". Eggplant with basil is always my first choice. Love the fried rice and egg rolls. Most selections are excellent. Cash only.

I love this restaurant. It's got some restrictive hours, and they accept only cash or check. Aside from that, I can eat so many different vegetarian foods here for such reasonable prices, and it is really delicious as well as healthy. I like buying their...More

If you are interested to visit Buddhist temple, this is it! The founder of this temple contributed majority part of this camp area to "education" usage. The actual temple is only a small building. I think that is a noble cause! Many peacocks wondering inside...More

There are no fees. You are able to go about the place and park for free. The only thing they ask is that you do sign in. There are two reasons I can see they would want this for. One would be to show how many people come and... More
