I went to Boreas Pass Road and hiked the snow packed trail for about two miles. The views of Breckenridge and the surrounding peaks is magnificent. I was there during the late afternoon and sunset, and will return someday to get photos during sunrise.

Drive over this pass in the Fall, if possible! It is a fabulous drive from Breckenridge to the old town of Como; viewing of the aspen colors is really quite something. In summer, there are also some good hiking trails along the way.

Boreas Pass is an old mining road, with plenty of history and scenic views, well worth the drive. Don't forget your camera!

We had a rental car with just front-wheel drive. This road (during snowfall) requires a 4-wheel drive. We failed to make it up the pass TWICE during our stay...ended up parking our car and renting an Uber.

This offers the best views for least effort. Great for snowshoeing or x-country skiing, or (a day or so after trail has been broken) for walking. In summer, drive over to Como, and make the round trip back to Breckenridge, stopping in Fair Play for...More

Golden aspens and beautiful mountain peaks. Be sure to stop on south side where you can view a section of the old railroad rail. Great to bike on summer and fall and XC ski in the winter. Gentle grade. Goes above tree line to a...More

The Boreas Pass road is the other way to get to Breck, you come in from the south. It has a place to park at the top. There is snow shoeing in the winter and hiking in the summer. It is a beautiful drive that...More

As you head out of Breckenridge on Main St (CO-9) and make a left onto Boreas Pass Rd, you'll have a normal, paved road for a couple of miles before it turns into a packed gravel/dirt road. May be a bit tough without 4WD, but...More

What TomAB9 said. I would only add that the road gets narrow at times for two cars to pass and so you might use some caution when approaching vehicles in the opposit direction.
