This was absolutely worth the drive. Some areas are tight, so go slow and be watching for other vehicles but the road is well-kept and we didn't have any problems with a Honda Acord.

It was quite an thrill to follow the old railroad over the pass and experience the sights and some of the feel of what the engineers may have felt. There is a section where you can still see the rails and how close they originally...More

Boreas Pass Road goes from the south end of Breckenridge, over the pass to the tiny town of Como (near Fairplay). It was originally a narrow gauge railroad line, to it has moderate grades. Big views and great hikes! Note: This road is only open...More

It's a road with attitude. It's beautiful in summer and fall with mountain views and leaf peeping. In Winter, it can be an ice slick. There are locals and tourists living close to this road. Mountain bikers sometime zip down it in summer. There are...More

Road was closed due to snow, but we walked about 1 mile up the road to see beautiful views of Breckinridge. Parked at a trail head but you need snowshoes to walk the trail

Excellent trails and views for snowshoeing and cross country skiing. No charge. Not crowded. One of the best in Breckenridge.

Hi, I would really appreciate some input. My girlfriend and I are renting a pickup in Denver and driving to Steamboat in a few weeks (late Feb) and I've never seen Breckenridge so we're going to and have a beer and lunch somewhere. Is this Boreas Pass a road we could drive up to catch a view or is it just for hikers? Is it worth even doing at all? We would be into a quick 1 hour hike if it gets us some great views, but would just as soon drive up there. Any thoughts greatly appreciated. p.s. I have 30 years experience driving in snow if that matters Thanks! Kevin Farrell Rochester NY

First of all, if you are heading for Steamboat, rent a 4wd SUV. We are having an epic snow year. You will be able to get around much better in a 4wd. The other answers are correct-you wont get very far up Boreas in... More

We live in Breck and the colors are gorgeous now, but supposed to peak next weekend...of course, there is a storm that they're saying could bring some snow next weekend too!

I will be visiting the last week of June. Should the road be opened by then? I was planning on being in Breckenridge on the 26th.
