When we pulled up into the park we noticed there weren't very many trails to get out and stretch your legs, but that downside was met with a huge upside when we drove into the buffalo area. Because we were met by a herd of them walking across the road and eating grass on the side, and it was just... More

Went in feb and was cold and windy but still saw a lot of wildlife. Will have to come back in the spring to see what the area looks like then. Saw deer, buffalo, tons of different birds depending on the area. The visitor center is nice and has the history of the area and it's many uses over the... More

A friend brought me here to experience bison at sunrise (winter sunrise, so after 7 AM). It was a beautiful drive in the gorgeous colors of the rising sun, and we could see bison, deer, prairie dogs and raptors from the windows of our car. If you come here expecting to be able to hike, you might be disappointed, because... More

We were in Denver for a conference and had a few hours to spare and we wanted to get out of the metropolitan area to find nature. The Arsenal Wildlife Refuge is a wonderful and necessary place for wildlife. It has a very nice visitor center and friendly staff. However, there is mostly driving and not much for hiking. It... This wildlife refuge is beautiful! It takes about an hour or so to drive all the way through, but you can take more time depending on how many animals you want to stop and photograph and see. The mule deer were very interactive, they responded to our voices and would turn to look right at the camera! There are birds... More

Our hotel was very close to here so I thought it worth the time to check it out. A nice visitor center will give you the history of the site. The wildlife drive takes from 45min to a hour depending on stops along the way. We saw numerous prairie dogs and 3 bison but at least we were able to... More

We did the driving tour and I think we got lucky. There were two bison crossing from one pasture to another just as we were driving through. They were so close to the car that it made everyone nervous. The rest of the driving tour was completely uneventful except for spotting a deer and a couple large birds (cranes or... More

Not exactly hard core wilderness but very accessible wildness right in Denver. Saw deer, bison, and prairie dogs. Nice walking trails but next time I'll bring bike. Good visitor center

We drove here expecting to see lots of buffalo. Only one was close enough to have his picture taken. We did see a few more from a distance. We also saw ducks and other birds. The exhibits were very interesting. There were displays of animals, such as coyotes, deer and buffalo, with pieces of fur hanging for the kids to... More
