We travelled on this road before making a trek from Golden to Estes Parks and the views of mountains and wildlife were stunning. The switchbacks were somewhat exciting without guardrails in some spots.

My brother and new sister-in-law chose to get married at Echo Lake, which is on the way to Mount Evans. The drive is beautiful, if a bit hair-raising if you don't love curves and heights. Echo Lake itself is astoundingly beautiful.

The Mount Evans drive is one of the best scenic drives in Colorado, but it is not for the faint of heart. The drive starts amoung the pines and moves up past the alpine and into the rocky crags. It passes several beautiful lakes and...More

When I read previous reviews, I couldn't wait to make this trip up the mountain. I guess I didn't read enough reviews to know the drive is quite harrowing at many points. While the view is beautiful, the narrow roads and sharp turns near steep...More

Have been here three times. Paved and "exciting" road to top of Mt Evans. Summit lake, 2/3 way up mountain, is amazing. Check on road access before starting except in summer.

Nice easy drive. Paved. Well worth the 1 hour drive from Denver. Do go up to Mount Evans too if you have time (will need extra time and there is an entrance fee station although there was no one there at 7am when I arrived.

We went up here in a 30 foot RV with no problems, just needed to take our time and be sensible. Snow was still in places which added to the scenery. Be aware that at over 14000 feet the air is thin and you can...More

Long drive up, but the views are wonderful. Can be a bit crowded on weekends with a lot of bikers and even runners heading up to the top. When you get to the top, be sure to take some time walking through and appreciating the...More

We are flying into Denver Airport, driving to Estes Park staying for several days and then driving south to Colorado Springs and staying several days. We want to see/experience Mount Evans Scenic Byway. Is it reasonable to see on the way to Denver or on the way to Colorado Springs?

From Estes Park go onto Peak-to-Peak Highway to Idaho Springs. Idaho Springs has road to top of Mt Evans. Afterwards, go to Bergen Park/Evergreen, get on 70E to C470E to I25S to Colorado Springs. This is not an "on-the-way... More

There is no lodging at the top. Closest place to stay would be Bergen Park or Idaho Springs. As always, in Colorado, higher elevation will be cooler. We have a coat and gloves in car readily available with when traveling... More
