The train is nice! The service is great! The view along the way to Silverton is unbelievable and I recommend this adventure to folks with children. The ride is a little long and I noticed that passengers were getting tired on the way home. Truth is, it's still fun

We enjoyed our winter trip and all the beauty of the San Juan range. Since it was winter, the train was not full and the conductor let us move about the cars (premium cars excluded). We virtually had the train to ourselves.

The train ride was one of the highlights of our 17-day trip to southwest Colorado. We reserved a seat on the Alamosa car, the last one on the train, and planned to return by bus. Our attendant was a geologist who had worked on an oil rig, been a government employee in Alaska for 25 years, and worked on the... More

We have been on a number of steam trains around the world. The last one being at Kuranda in Cairns Qld. I have to say the scenery on the DSNGR was breathtaking. During the winter they don't go to Silverton but it is still worth the journey. They have a cafe onboard which serves hot dogs, pulled pork sandwiches, burritos,... More

This coal-fired, steam-powered locomotive runs on narrow-gage tracks and gives riders a taste (sometimes literally) of the experiences from 1880s Colorado riders. Lots of interesting views. The ticket includes a tour of the museum in Durango. We were anxious to get to our hotel and almost didn't walk into the museum. Exhibits galore! Don't miss the museum.

We were four couples and because of the time of year only had the option to ride the train up and back, no bus option. So we purchased four tickets, and four rode the train up and four rode the train back, with a vehicle swap in Silverton. The views were great! Unbelievable to be exact! While it was great,... More

Wish we had more time to do the trips to Silverton. The train is the perfect backdrop to the city of Durango.
