This is a very nice trail close to the historical part of town and good for outdoor activities, walking, running and biking. It is parallel to main street and easy to get to it. The bike traffic could be heavy at time.

We explored this trail along the river on our mountain bikes. You have to watch for pedestrians, there were many people walking, jogging, walking dogs, and cycling around, so not a good trail to ride hard or competitive cycling. Mostly was cement surface and other portions were asphalt. With nice views of the river and several places to even dip... More

Very nice walking path. Great scenery and views. This is a nice way to get exercise and walk from 1 end of town to the other.

we stayed near the historic city center, and finding the trail was quick and easy. the cottonwoods and aspens were beautiful, a panorama of yellow and gold. the river splashed and burbled enough to make you feel like you were well away from the city.

I visited this trail about 6 times during my two-week stay in Durango. It is a great place for both a leisurely bike ride or a walk with the wife. This isn't the place for a fast bike ride, there are way too many people walking and jogging for someone to enjoy a competitive ride through it. This is a... More

Spent the entire morning walking along the river as it wound past quaint riverfront parks, shops, fish hatchery, schools, great library, train tracks and quiet river. Only disappointment came at we approached the raft take out area by a great children's pRk. Phew - the stink from the water treatment plant - ugh! Walk towards the other end of town... More

We have hiked/walked both trails of the Animas River. This one is quite lovely with great views of the river. It has benches to sit for a while and beautiful iron bridges to cross over and take an up close look down the river. Many people ride bikes here as well. We brought our camera and took some great family... More

The river running through Durango is gorgeous and the walkway a wonderful place for an early morning walk or afternoon picnic. Unfortunately there is a water treatment plant down near the visitors center and the smell in that area is terrible. So much so that we avoided the area after our initial arrival because it was very off putting. Stay... More

The views are lovely and the nature scene is on-point. I love our river trail and use it as much as possible to get across town. It's so convenient and the access points are in great locations. I specially love the park by 32nd street.

We walked the southern portion one day and the northern portion the next. Long, flat, beautiful trail along the animas river. Great way to get out and see the town and get some fresh air. Plenty of spots to dip off to go to a store or restaurant. Enjoyed thoroughly.
