The river winds through Durango and the San Juan forest. It is absolutely beautiful. During summer, you can raft the river. There are hiking & jogging paths along the river in town.

Our hotel is backed up to this river. There is a nice, paved walking path that follows the river for quite a way. I saw ducks and deer along the path. The sounds of the river are relaxing and the river appears in pristine condition.

The Animas River offers spectacular scenery in southwestern Colorado. Walk along the river, take the train, do some hiking. Whatever your thing, you're sure to see some beautiful sights along the way.

We loved our observations of the Animas River and we explored the Durango-Silverton, CO area. The blue color was just absolutely gorgeous as we traveled the mountainous road up to Silverton and back to Durango. The rapids were just so exciting to watch as the...More

We had a cabin on the banks of the Animas River. Waking up to the scenery in the morning was amazing. The river is a beautiful color reflecting trees with currents rippling over rocks.

The Animas is the river flowing by the narrow gauge train (FYI). It is a beautiful light turquoise, shallow and fast flowing, swirling around and among the rock formations. A great hike, or take the train!

The river is a beautiful turquoise blue and it can be seen for a long distance from many vantage points - the downtown Durango River Walk is along the river. We saw a fly fisherman standing in the waters near Durango. If you want to...More

If there is a prettier river or valley anywhere, it will be hard to find it in the U.S. The river has so many excellent places to view and hike and fish and just take it all in, you will be hard pressed to find...More

I had my first adventure kayaking ever and the Animas River was the ideal place. I made it through the rapids without tipping over and had a blast. It's a very popular place for rafting too. We had a blast watching people jump the famous...More

While I do not know for sure if there are vacation homes available I highly suspect it. The area is filled with a great deal of natural beauty that certainly would attract folks to offer a vacation home paradise.

When the river is really running, there is one rapid that is a class IV - V. We have rafted with children as young as six and my parents who are in their 70s. Never any problem and we have always had a fantastic time!
