The Georgetown Loop Railroad was one of Colorado’s first visitor attractions. Completed in 1884, this spectacular stretch of three-foot narrow gauge railroad was considered an engineering marvel for its time. This is a ride to remember! The beauty of the rugged Rocky Mountains surrounds you as our old-time steam locomotive or one of our powerful diesel locomotives winds up the Clear Creek canyon. Pass by remains of gold and silver mines and breathtaking views along the line, in fully enclosed and open cars. Great family fun for kids of all ages.

My husband is a train junkie so he was in his glory on this old steam train. We did the mine tour that came with a surprise lunch from the grill. Nice bonus. Tour guide was very interesting and truly enjoyed what he was doing....More

We did the train ride and the Lebanon Mine tour. The train ride was not on time so we had to wait at Silver Plume station, for 30 mins over lunchtime The facilities are adequate. There is a small gift shop with a coffee machine...More

Thankfully, I ordered tickets on line, as train was sold out on day I arrived. A beautiful drive out of Denver across mountains and next to a beautiful stream - I found Georgetown. The train crosses on the high bridge and the scenery is most...More

Train ride on a mountain track with history shared by the Brakeman of the train. Very informative, friendly and fun staff. Georgetown Depot and shop are very nice in a beautiful spot above the valley. Loved the experience.

Great ride, beautiful scenery! Spring is a good time of year to visit, the weather is just right. The weekend we were there, we became part of a 'train robbery' reenactment. What fun!! If you go, I highly recommend the mine tour. Along the ride,...More

I plan to ride the train in August with my wife, who has difficulty climbing 5+ stairs and walking for longer than 300 ft distance, and our 13-year old granddaughter. Would you recommend taking one of the mine tours? Or would they be too strenuous on my wife?

The mine tours have many steps and standing for presentations. Much too strenuous.

I didn't see anyone with a dog at the train station or on the train either. But I bet you can call or look at the website to check out the rules and regulations.

How long does it take to travel the entire loop? Do they give you time to walk around Silver Plume if you're starting in Georgetown?

It depends if summer or winter. Winter is ONLY a round-trip ride that last about an hour or so - no stops and getting on and off. Summer is different, since the mine(s) are open - so I'm guessing if you want to get off to... More
