This rigorous hike is worth the awe-inspiring natural beauty. The trail follows Dead Horse Creek, with footbridges spanning the creek along the way. The trail is a steep mile-long climb with uneven rocky terrain. Wear proper footwear, not flip-flops. Bring plenty of water and be...More

We set out early and it was freezing for us from the sunshine state. We had gear, but it was bone chilling. I am glad that I toughed it out because it is a fun hike and hanging lake is so beautiful. It is crystal...More

We got here at 7 am at the end of November. It was cold - about 18 degrees. Since we were there so early, we did not have issues with parking. The trail itself is not particularly difficult. There is some elevation and if you...More

Absolute must visit! This was so worth driving to and hiking. I’ve heard they will soon be offering this site through a lottery and walk ups will be a thing of the past. Get out there and see it while you can!

Hanging Lake is worth the hike as long as you are comfortable hiking over rocks the entire way. It's only 1.2 miles each way but takes longer with the terrain. Definitely wear good hiking boots for support. We arrived around 10am on a saturday and...More

What a magnificent trail! Short. It has a good vertical ascent! Average fitness level should take an hour. Add more time if you bring children. There are a few step climbs BUT people of ALL AGES make it to the lake! Stunning views ! Friendly...More

Fairly easy hike in, just watch where you are going as far as rocks at your feet. Be careful coming down, tie your laces tight for the decent. Go on up to the Spouting Rock-you will see the sign. Stay on the trail.

We live near this wonderful Hanging Lake Trail and scenic lake destination. We are fortunate to be able to visit in off season. The summer season sees way too many visitors. Do enjoy, but I encourage all to appreciate the specialness of this trail and...More

This is one of the prettier hikes we have done so far in CO. It is not an easy hike, but well worth the views at the top. The lake and waterfalls are lovely. The trail is very rocky most of the way and steep....More

I was a little worried about doing this in November because it sounded like it might already be snowing up there, but the weather was great and there were still a number of people I ran into on the way up and down. Close to...More

It will be cold then, but pretty sure the trail is open year round. The surrounding weather and roads would be the only limitations if it has snowed a lot. Check the roads with CDOT. Any precipitation on the trail would... More

Typically it is open year-round except for certain days for trail maintenance. Wintertime would possibly require the right equipment such as crampons and proper boots, clothes and poles. Hanging Lake is part of the white... More
