We had a hard time getting my sons (ages 6, 8, 10, 13) to leave because they loved this place. In the basement, there is a huge toy train exhibit. Outside, you can walk inside of every train car imaginable.

Fun place to spend an afternoon if you're a fan of history, trains, or have a child who is into Thomas and Friends. We took our grandson and had to drag him away after many hours exploring. Unpretentious and refreshingly authentic.

We took our granddaughter here - she's almost 4 - and we all loved it. I can't say for certain but it appears to be a private museum - not government funded. Many volunteers keep things running (the train rides that they periodically run around their site). Volunteers also maintain the donated trains. This facility is popular with families with... More

Jerry, Thank you very much for taking the time to visit the Museum and to leave a review. I can confirm that the Museum is a private museum owned and operated by the 501(c)3 Colorado Railroad Historical Foundation and we are fortunate enough to have a group of over 300 volunteers that contribute their time throughout the year! I hope... More

Such a gorgeous day, let's go to the train museum! Wow, price has gone up. Less trains to go into. Now you have to pay for the H O scale trains downstairs of go around. Not much fun with so many limitations. Perhaps it is due to the time of year.

Nancy, Thank you for visiting the Colorado Railroad Museum in Golden, CO and for taking the time to leave a review. The museum keeps a number of railroad cars and locomotives open to the public year round including engine cabs with bells that can be pulled by children. Unfortunately, due to damage caused by unsupervised guests we currently restrict access... More

Our family, including a toddler, really enjoyed this museum. The history was really interesting for the adults, and my 20-month-old son loved seeing the old, real trains.

This is a wonderful diamond in the rough. My Grandchildren love it and loved the train ride. They also have a large outdoor miniature train 🚂 set up with all different sizes and working trains. Plan to spend several hours so the kids can climb on all the trains

We make regular trips to the Museum with our grandsons. They love it! They especially like the diorama in the basement - take plenty of quarters!

Every state has a railroad museum that is at least partially unique in collection and character to its host state. The Colrado Railroad Museum is one of the very best in this regard, rich heritage of both narrow and standard guage, special rolling stock and rail vehicles unique to Colorado, and excellent indoor interactive displays of history, ephemera, and pointers... This was just a stop for some friends and I as we passed it. No kids with us but it was still very interesting seeing all the trains and train cars. The huge trainset in the basement was very cool. Fun for anyone to see. I recommend this to everyone.
