In continuous use since 1862, walking into the cool adobe buildings is truly stepping back in time! 10 Rooms in the fort, plus other historic buildings on the property (1890 saloon, 1876 log school house, working blacksmith forge, mining building, etc) is more than just artifacts and collections! Special events, educational programs, guided and self-guided tours run from Memorial Day - Labor Day. Group tours, special functions, etc upon request.

Definitely worth a stop here. The museum is chock full of interesting displays and artifacts. Aside from the main building, there are several others, all worth walking through. We loved the one room schoolhouse, complete with desks, books, maps on the wall. Felt like kids...More

The Museum isn't advertised where it is located very well, but it is well worth the time. LOADS of historical items, some buildings, artifacts, information about the area and remembrances of an era gone by. Being a history buff - I loved it! Very low...More

Highly recommended to see a great collection of artifacts, photos, displays, etc. of pioneer days in La Veta and surrounding towns.

Unassuming from the street, Francisco Fort Museum is a surprising collection of historical and cultural items from La Veta and the region. A visit here is a very good way to orient yourself to the area before exploring more extensively.

While this museum was interesting to visit, it was mostly a bunch of antiques from different times and locations, which were not necessarily related to the trading post itself. Worth a visit none the less.

We had been to this museum years ago but came back to get more details for the Alexanders and Reads. Nancy was so knowledgeable and helpful. We will have more than family stories to tell our grandchildren about our Georgia colony ancestors.

The Francisco Fort is an incredible place to visit. You walk back into history as you enter the adobe building and experience the fort as it was over a hundred years ago. The other attractions...the school house, blacksmith shop, saloon, coal mining building...were filled with...More
