Good hike, terrain was easy, just the elevation a challenge to me. Crossing the 4000m I started to have problems with breathing, every 10m elevation difference I had to take break to take a breath. Otherwise, the scenery was spectacular, beautiful landscape all around...

Hiked Mount Elbert with 4 buddies. Was a very long day but an excellent hike. Our route took us up the Northeast ridge via the standard route, down the Southeast ridge and back to the original trailhead via the Colorado trail. Just over 13 miles...More

Really, the only reason to climb Mt. Elbert is because you want to climb Colorado's highest peak. But the reasons to climb stop there. It is not a very attractive mountain and the climb is very boring. You would be much better served to climb...More

Elbert is the highest of Colorado's 54 14,000 ft mountains. That said it is a fairly easy sloping trail that is very well maintained. The round trip length of the various faces varies but it is less that 7 miles in most cases. An excellent...More

That is strictly a matter of your pace, of course. The easiest, hence the quickest, route up is the Northeast Ridge route ("From U.S. 24 just south of Leadville, turn onto Colorado 300 and cross the railroad tracks. Drive... More

Leadville is the closest town, and Buena Vista is a few miles further away. Both cater to the tourist and I am sure offer ATV rentals, but you can't use an ATV to go up Elbert. There may be areas on Elbert's flanks that... More
