Amazing must see. There is no way, but with experience, to describe the beauty of these mountains. Make sure you have sufficient time to take the necessary side trips!

Came over the pass on a perfect weather day. A must ride. With lucj there were no motorhomes to slow me down. A well enginered road, fun to ride.

Only passed through but what great scenery! Stopped at top for some great pics and a picnic lunch. Fun steep road!

loved driving over this pass, so scenic. The views are spectacular and the ski resort is almost on the summit.

This was the most memorable hike since my first continental divide trail run/hike. View from the trail was amazing and unforgettable. Very easy hike and trail is well marked.

We rode the Monarch Crest Scenic Tramway up the mountain. You arrive at an enclosed observation building that you can walk outside on to the small balcony. It was 45 degrees and the wind blowing 35-40 mph; but, an incredible experience! You can also bike or walk up and down to/from the observation area. There is a gift shop where... More

Son and I stopped here and rode the tram up the mountain. Go from 11,000 to 12,000 feet and the views were incredible. You are supposed to be able to see Piles Peek from the top, but it wasn't clear during our visit. The gift shop at the bottom had some great items and a huge variety. Loved it.

If you have already driven Cottonwood Pass, or you want to stay on paved roads, then drive Monarch Pass between Gunnison and Salida/Buena Vista. It gets you to over 11,000 feet, has very nice views and an extensive gift shop, rest area. The privately run rest stop also sells tickets to a tram that takes up another 500+ feet for... More

The drive is OK by Colorado standards. Unless you need to drive up and over your time would be better going over Independence Pass. I did not stop at the Ski resort - just talking about the drive.
