This campground is no longer a State Park, which is unfortunate. It appears that having healthy water got too expensive so they have now become a State Wildlife Area. We stayed in Loop A, which has the best views of the Sand Dunes, but there...More

I will never understand why campers complain about gravel roads, lack of free showers, and all the other amenities that they could have if they just stayed home, which is what many of them should do. San Luis was to-die-for gorgeous: open spaces, views of...More

This state park is very close to the sand dunes. It was really buggy when we arrived to set up camp though. Luckily the ranger's wife had bug spray at the headquarters and allowed us to use it when purchasing firewood. The sites are very...More

We camped here while heading to the Sand Dunes. The campgrounds are nice. You need to book pretty far in advance to ensure that you get a spot in the summer. Otherwise, be prepared to leave early to snag a walk up spot.

We stopped by here on our way to Great Sand Dunes, expecting to take a walk by the lake and take some photos. The lake has been drained or has dried up, so there is no water except some irrigation ditches. The surrounding mountains are...More

As Colorado State Parks go this one is also in a wonderful location and has electrical hookups, showers, and laundry facilities. There are water spigots and water is provided but there are not water hookups at the sites. We visited in late September so all...More
