We drove from Durango to Ouray via Silverton this October - the fall colors were out in full and it was a beautiful drive with lovely scenery. I personally prefer the scenery (mainly forested mountains, with beautiful golden aspens) from Durango to Silverton, and this...More

Drove this road rather than take the train. It was scenic, but for fall colors I prefer the areas around Aspen. We were there at the peak of the fall color season for this area.

We drove this highway north from Durango to Silverton. The views were amazing! The weather was sunny with some clouds, but a great fall day for the drive. I would not want to be n this road in bad weather. The lack of guard rails...More

The colors were in full 'bloom' and the vistas beautiful. The road is narrow in places and guard rails are absent so the driver has to pay attention to the road - but for passengers, the views are breathtaking.

This drive from Durango to Ouray is undervalued when referred to as The Million Dollar Highway. The views are spectacular! Even if you don’t think you’ll want to stop and take in the views...you will. Keep your camera handy and plan to take a lot...More

There were large 5th wheel campers and full size semi trucks, so I doubt a slide in camper would have any problems.
