The Yampa River Core Trail is a seven mile, non-motorized multi-use trail that follows the meandering Yampa River from Dougherty Road through downtown Steamboat Springs to Bear River Park. Groves of cottonwood trees, excellent fishing, scenic overlook benches, and lovely picnic spots make this trail a great place for a leisurely stroll or a commuter route through town. Additionally, there are many parks and playgrounds and more miles of trail that can be accessed off of the Core Trail.

This trail is an excellent way to go through town without having to drive. The east side has interesting deviations (like gardens).

It is an absolutely beautiful paved walk way along the Yampa. From the end of town in either direction it is good for biking but through town, a bit crowded because of the people with baby carriages/strollers and people walking dogs. But going west or...More

We parked down by the botanical park and walked the entire downtown all the way to 11th and Lincoln. This was a nice relaxing and easy walk. Just note that bathrooms are few and far between and the ones we found were locked. Luckily, Natural...More

We spent two weeks in Downtown Steamboat and this paved trail was kind of the centerpiece of our transportation. Rather than drive, we walked everywhere, and this route along the river allowed us to get our exercise and go where we wanted. We walked from...More

Spent half a day following this trail. River views are awesome with lots of quaint little bridges. Trains were very cool. Don't miss the sulfur springs along the way. Very smelly but very beautiful.

We rented bikes and rode this trail in the afternoon. Most of it goes along the river. The trail is mostly flat and well-maintained. We stopped at the Botanic Garden along the way.

Yes. Much of it is cleared. I wore YakTrax when I ran it, though.

We rented from Ski Haus. Easy access to the trail and not far from the Botanical Gardens. Be sure to use the coupon found in the Steamboat Guide. Available for free in many stores, hotels and fast food places.
