This was a very scenic hike, with the trailhead conveniently located right in town. Wasn't sure if I would need snowshoes or not. Kinda wish I had had them, as I fell through numerous times, but it was such a pleasant outing anyway. Seems like it might be tough for people not used to altitude but you can certainly rest... This is a great in town hike. Go early in the morning as it can have mosquito's later in the day. Take a little picnic and make sure you go to top, the last part is a tiny scramble but the waterfall is definitely worth it!

If you didn't know it was there, you would miss a sweet place to visit. The walk up from town is invigorating but not too hard, and the views just keep getting better. As you hike up, imagine back country skiers coming down from the high cliffs on either side. They really do! If you go in winter, watch out... More

Wonderful hike right out of town to beautiful waterfall. Spectacular views back down-valley, especially in fall colors. Whimsical collection of "ducks" (stacked-rock trail markers used on bare rock when trails are not visible) about 2/3 of the way up. Add your own. All uphill to waterfall but not strenuous. Lots of wildlife to see and hear (I saw a weasel... More

The Bear Creek trail leaves right out of South Pine Street and isn't as vertical as most hikes around. It's a wide trail and does have quite a bit of water on it so waterproof boots are suggested. At the end of the trail you have a spectacular waterfall which you can walk into if you want to experience how... More

This is an interesting hike up one of the side canyons at Telluride. It starts as a jeep trail and gets rockier and rougher as you go up the canyon. There is plenty of shade for most of the walk. Bring the camera! The falls at the end of the trail are worth the climb in elevation! This is a... More

This was one of our favorite hikes during our 17-day trip to southwest Colorado. The trailhead was only a six-minute walk on level ground from our hotel. At the trailhead we saw a sign about precautions to take in bear country. Although the elevation gain was 1,050 feet, the hike seemed easier because the incline was gradual and the path... More

if you need to adjust to the high altitude, this short, uphill round trip (6 miles) is perfect. The hike starts in town across the bridge at Pine Street. We packed a lunch and strolled leisurely up to the falls and back; coming from sea level made this a workout. But with so many views, trees and flowers to photograph,... More

A very rocky, rutted path/road fairly steep in some places and, thankfully, mostly in shade in the afternoon. Some nice views down the valley, but not very scenic. However, October is not the best time; the water was just barely falling and not very picturesque. I was disappointed after putting forth so much effort. I'm pretty sure the water flow... More
