Absolutely beautiful! Been a few times now as I only live across the water and each time it’s like a different country I’m in completely! It’s absolutely beautiful and so relaxing! We had a fantastic family day cycling round the full island and enjoying the beach as well as the breathtaking views!

A nice wee beach with great views.

Newton Beach is the small shingle/sandy beach that lies below the promenade in the centre of Millport. With gently sloping sand into shallow water it is ideal for families and its intertidal rock pools add extra interest and fun while the stunning views of the Eileans, Little Cumbrae and the Clyde Estuary make the perfect backdrop.

The beach is highly rated and has received a Beach Award from Keep Scotland Beautiful.

Enjoyable afternoon
Jul 2021 • Family
Spend 3 hours here with my family. The beach was extremely busy as it was a very hot day but we still found a space to sit at. My children loved playing and swimming in the crystal clear water. Would definitely return next time I am in Millport. The only downside was people leaving their litter on the beach. Why can’t people take it home with them or put it in the bins which are just off the beach.

Extremely clean beach.

This beach is immaculate, sand is very good, very safe for children, the sea water is very clear with no pollution. Loads of seating on the promenade for parents who don't want to go onto the sand, so can keep an eye on the children. Easy access to cafes and shops.

Average beach...just the place to gaze at industrial views
Mar 2019 • Couples
The beach on the side facing the mainland is not ideal for stunning views unless you like large industrial scenery. Travel around the island to find better.

Clean the beach
Jul 2018 • Couples
We cycled round the island it was a great cycle route not very busy with traffic. Really enjoyed it. And as the weather was roasting it made a big difference will definitely do the cycle track again. Just a bit disappointed with the beach the water was freezing and, very dirty from the oil and grease from the Harbour. We stopped at the cabin on the other side of the island to get something to eat. The boy that was serving was absolutely terrible we waited in the cue for about 15 min. And still didn’t look like he was going to get us served today. He was 2 speeds slow and stopped. So we left and went to the chippy at the Harbour the food wasn’t great and the guy that was frying it looked like he needed a good clean. Next time I’m taking a picnic

Fantastic beach and great scenery

Millport is the easiest of islands to reach as it is a 10 minute ferry ride from Largs. This costs £3.20 each return including our bikes. Millport is famous for hiring bikes and cycling round the island, about 8 miles or so. Easy and flat cycling with stunning views of many other islands. The beaches here are great, clear water and very quiet. Newton beach is comparatively large, sandy and home if the famous Crocodile rock. A very special place worth visiting.

Walking trip

Me and my husband visited Millport whilst walking around the island. We stopped at the beach to have lunch and it is like a tiny slice of heaven. The beach is beautiful, well looked after and the people here are lovely.. everyone says hello!! The water is crystal clear.. you certainly don't get that in Largs!

Beautiful Beach

What's not to like about this beach? Nice and quiet and great for children to play. Make sure you bring a spade and pale.
