Papercourt lake is a 5 minute walk from Send and about 15 minutes walk, from the centre of Ripley. There are a few laybyes around the lake, but it is probably best if you are driving to use the free small car park in Newark Lane .Walking around the lake past the Papercourt Sailing Club is very peaceful and there is plenty of wildlife to spot. It is popular with dog walkers. In the winter months parts can get rather muddy, so you will need to wear the appropriate footwear. There are no toilet facilities on the walk.

Scenic large lake, good for walking. 10minutes walk from centre of village. Varied birdlife and places to sit for rests.

Living locally, I have walked and run around the lake many times, and recently have started open water swimming there on Tuesday evenings.
The organisers put out a 450m and 750m loop for swimmers, and the water warms up nicely in sunny weather as the lake is relatively shallow.
It can get weedy, but they do cut the weeds when it gets bad, and they recently moved the swim to deeper water when the shallow end got a bit weeded up.
It is great that there is a well maintained footpath around the lake (around 2.5km as a lap), which means it's well used by walkers and runners. There is also an active fishing club, and now the swimming too. Well done to the sailing club which owns and operates the lake for making it accessible for everyone for a range of activities.

Located inbetween Pyrford and Send is this mid sized lake that is mostly used for sailing. As you would expect there is plenty of birdlife on the lake and in the surrounding countryside. A little isolated.

I have been walking this area for 20 years.
Since the overgrown trees and bushes were cut back, and the chippings used on the pathways, its a nicer walk, more open and less muddy in some parts.
Its a gentle walk, both open areas and through wooded parts, its nice to see people learning to sail,. Just one real pity - there sems to be some nasty weed that has taken hold in the last few years, and a scooper-upper vessel has to gather it and dump it up by the marina end, i hope they can get to grips with it, it seems to really choke the lake in summer.

I don't want to tell you to park at the marina, which is private. We parked opposite the village green in Send Marsh and took the public footpath, which leads to the lake. Lovely walk on a summer's day, gazing out at the student mariners plying their sailboats. Man walking dog, dog gives us a slobbery nuzzle. All good fun, easy walking. Bench is provided so you can prolong your gazing.

We did this about half-way on our ramble - circular from Horsely. Quite pleasant setting but rather obviously man-made and exposed to the elements.

Lovely place for a peaceful walk, watching the sailing boats and watching the ducks and swans. Would definitely wear wellies or walking boats as the path gets a bit boggy.
