If you have not seen a drawbridge up close this is the one to see. Whether you are in your vehicle, on foot or by boat it is mesmerizing to watch.

It is quite a view when the bells ring and the bridge opens to let a boat through. The oversized concrete counterweights are 'out of this world'. Never seen anything like it before in my life!

Never saw anything quite like this, If your lucky to have boat come through you get to see how it works. Giant counter weights that you can see the pictures.

This bridge is weight controlled and apparently one of the last in the USA that uses these large weights to open and close the bridge. It's on Main Street and goes up every hour during the summer, which can cause some traffic jams. Be sure...More

A Must-Do while in this quaint little town! We watched it 3 times:: From our car From the Mystic River Park Boardwalk From the S&P Oyster Co patio on the corner The bridge opens 40 minutes past the hour ~ the last one @ 6:40pm.

Inconveniencing all motorists and pedestrians by about 10 minutes in the process. The horn will also scare the heck out of you. BUT it's cool to watch. Seriously though, you learn to schedule everything you do around avoiding that bridge.

It was such a cool experience to be able to walk over the bridge, and then a short while later actually see it in action. It makes for a cool photo-op and should be seen in person.

Just a cool old working drawbridge in Mystic. We happened to be out and about the other day gorgeous day to be walking around and visiting the sites. If in the area make sure to walk across!

That was fun! What is so intriguing and interesting as watching a bridge raise and a boat pass? I don’t know but we enjoyed it. And...there is an ice cream shop to celebrate the raising and passing!

A great draw bridge that you can get close enough to actually see it work. It's also fun to watch the paddle boarders try to fit underneath while its closed.
