We spent at most a half an hour here. There were a few artists we really knew such as Church and and Homer, but the majority were new to us. This isn’t a big museum, it it was nice for the area. We enjoyed the...More

All museums deserve our praise. This was nice, but there were not enough famous works to get me to go back. There was a Cole and a Church as well as a Wyeth etc.. but it was only average.

We visited to take in the Weir exhibit, which was very well done and a nice compliment to an earlier stop at Weir Farm. The area where the usual exhibits are kept was closed for renovations, so we didn't get any feel for what they...More

This small museum is in a lovely old building but has very little on exhibit right now due to renovations. Instead drive through the campus of Connecticut College where it is located to view the lovely stone buildings of this fine traditional college. The Admissions...More

The Lyman Allyn Art Museum is one of New London's treasures. It is filled with shiny marble stairs and high ceilings. The collections rotate but there is a lovely constant collection of oils, American Furniture, a life size doll house and an old wooden model...More

The collection of antique, locally made furniture is especially nice. This museum is small but well curated.

I have gone to the Lyman Allyn several times with family (and I quickly chose a favorite painting). There are days when the museum is free or discounted, so schedule your visit carefully. It's a smaller museum than many, so you can be sure to...More

A nicely maintained local art museum, but done professionally in a purpose-built building. Modern sculptures outside, historic oil paintings inside.

Was once a general museum and now just art. A range from conventional to modern. Nobody there but a "guard" college student and a lady at the entrance desk. Take your time.

The Lyman Allyn Art Museum is a small museum with some very nice examples of American paintings, furniture, and decorative arts. I would recommend that you start with galleries on your left as you enter the main floor, and work your way chronologically. You get...More
