There's a connonball (replica) outside the building where it was hit and a real one inside too. This small museum is chock full of pictures, interesting items, and explanations from the history of Lewes--and maintained by the Lewes Historical Society. It's located in downtown Lewes near the water.

Walked around the main streets in Lewes and came upon the Cannonball House. It was closing so we will have to go inside at another time to give a full review. It is a very pretty piece of history.

The Cannonball house gets its name from a cannonball in the foundation from a bombardment of Lewes during the war of 1812. It is also the Maritime Museum that explores Lewes' connection to the sea - fishing, the River/Bay Pilots, and the breakwaters of the bay. Lewes was a major player in shipping to the Colonies, and the CBH even... More

Besides the cannonball there is also small pieces of history located behind and inside the building. I recon its worth the trip if you love anything history or learning about local culture.

To be honest we did not really tour the inside as we did not find a parking space. So I will have to accept the other reviews and those who found the docent helpful. We did a drive by and could see the Cannonball in the outer wall. The house itself was quite small. The connection to the War of... More

You can see the cannonball stuck in the building from the outside. Much of the story is available on placards around the building. It has a traditional garden from its revolutionary past.

Was here back in May of 2014 (not November, but it does not let me go back any further in time)....this place has a mark on the front of it where it was struck by a British cannonball fired during the War of 1812. Contains a great museum of the local history. Very much enjoyed our visit.

You'll really enjoy it. It is right in the historical town of Lewes, Delaware, so you can fit it in with your shopping and dining trip. It doesn't take much time, is free, and is very interesting. Great for kids of ANY age; it is brief, yet informative enough for one to learn a lot about Lewes' beginning. There are... More
