We decided to spend a day in Wilmington seeing things that are less talked about than the Brandywine attractions, and we started with the Rockwood Museum. Located within earshot of the interstate, it is nonetheless situated in a beautiful park. The house itself is a...More

This was the original retirement home built around 1851 of Joseph Shipley, a merchant banker who lived and worked in Liverpool, England for 30 years. Upon his return to the U.S., he hired the architect who built his much beloved estate in Liverpool to build...More

This DuPont estate has an interesting history and is a period piece of the turn of the 20th century. It is admirable that the local county took over the property and managed to keep it as a museum for the public, and they should be...More

Well, it seems this summer has become the "mansion tour", and it's had it's highs and lows. Rockwood Mansion Museum and Park is the low point. It needs the professional touch. Between the plastic flowers, vines, and floral displays (and they are everywhere), painted flowers...More

We went to Rockwood for the Shakespeare Festival. It was the most wonderful evening! we toured the mansion, took a picnic dinner and watched Shakespeare live under the stars. It is a beautifully maintained park and just a hidden gem.

Mostly heard about the Du Pont mansions and gardens, but Rockwood is a gem in its own right. Guides were knowledgeable and approachable . We were lucky to have them to ourselves. Paranormal events recorded by Ghost Hunters and Ghost Finders gave good marketing. Beautifully...More
