As it was to cold to visit the beach this day as I attended on doing I searched for another outdoor activity. The Fern Forest Nature Park was close by and I decided to check it out. There is a boardwalk leading through the dense forest from the parking lot to the visitors center. The boardwalk continues through many areas... More

If, during your beach vacation, you want to experience a quiet and peaceful change of pace, try the Cypress trail here. The raised trail is easy and safe. Didn't see any critters though. Didn't try the natural trails either.

I was in town visiting my Mom who lives in Deerfield Beach. I enjoy hiking so found this park and made a day trip. Although I could not hike all the trails as some were too wet and I lacked the proper foot wear :( I still enjoyed this park tremendously. What a gem!

Although I have lived within 30 minutes of Fern Forest for many years, this was my first visit. Every Sunday there is a 1 PM tour. Every other Sunday they switch sections of the trails. We had Rick lead us, and he was very knowledgeable, and was great answering all our questions. At 2:30 we went on a shutterbug scavenger... More

What a pleasant surprise. An elevated boardwalk lets you walk through a Cypress swamp and observe without getting your feet wet. Very convenient for people who might have trouble walking on dirt paths. Additional paths take you through other habitats but our 60 minutes spent in this forest was more than satisfying. In early December, the place was mosquito free.... More

"Fern Forest" was first introduced as a site for his wedding by Michael Shawhan.. He brought a local group of entertainers, preacher, bride, guests, food and drink. That was 25 years ago; I have been back many times, for plant sales mainly. This visit is merely to walk the paths I, look at the flora, the wild life. Their are... More

This was my first visit there. I didn't realize how big it was and soo much to see of nature. It was so peaceful you can spend all day there and not be bothered. I took some awesome pictures my passion. Great place for family, couples or solo. If you like Nature you will love this place. I am going... More

We walked around to get a multi-stage geocache here. It was a nice walk, and we did see a few critters. Be sure to get a map before you go out! Though the map could do a better job of outlining the trails. I noticed that there was a can of bug spray available for use, and drink vending machine... More

This gem tucked away where Lyons Road intersects Atlantic Boulevard in northwestern Broward County. There is little signage and an inconspicuous entrance. Once in the park, it still seems like a rough patch until you park and walk to the nature center. Once you go around the second floor walkway, which has the nicest restrooms I've ever seen in a... I have lived in South Florida for decades and have visited dozens of nature centers but for some reason never made it to the Fern Forest Nature Center before August of 2014. Unlike some of the other Nature Centers and Public Parks in South Florida, we were pleasantly surprised that the Fern Forest Nature Center did not charge an entrance... More
