The Gillespie Museum, Stetson University’s earth science museum, houses an historic mineral collection, with nearly a thousand of its 15,000 specimens on display in changing exhibits. There are also small galleries devoted to natural history, collecting, Florida ecosystems, fluorescent minerals, volcanism and the rock cycle. The grounds of the museum and of the adjacent Rinker Environmental Learning Center provide outdoor classrooms and native plant landscapes.

Huge meteorite

Gems and minerals galore. If you are a gemologist it is worth a visit. Great for any age as everything is on ground level.

The Minerals in this are more than rocks, they represent many of what we call gem stones and where they are found in our earths crust. It is a self guided tour, students staff the museum so questions may or may not be answered but a great way to pass an afternoon.

Tucked away on the back edge of the Stetson University Campus, it's a gem. (Punny, but true) A great collection, student guides on hand, and a variety of hands on items. On site is a small but fun museum store.

We love to take our winter visitors to this place. The huge amethyst is so amazing, gift from our earth. Neon rock formations. Beautiful color, not seen before. Fun for all ages.

This is a fabulous museum, but be advised it is only open during the week, as it is run by Stetson University and staffed primarily by student workers. The good news is that it is free! We took that into account when we decided to split our visit into several different trips. The rocks and minerals are lovely, but it... More

We decided to make the drive from Daytona to DeLand (45 min from the beach) because of the great write up that the museum had in the tourism booklet at our hotel. The book said that their hours were 10-4. To get out of the sun we popped the kids in the car and drove the distance. Got there and... More
