The striking thing is about these gardens, set in 19th century defense position is that they have been created and maintained by volunteers. The butterfly garden, destroyed by the October 2017 hurricane, was completely restored and in bloom when I visited in late December. There...More

A fort turned into a garden, with beach access, very nice grounds, butterflies everywhere in the butterfly gardens and immaculate maintenance. This is a pleasant side trip while you are at the beach anyway..

This is a hidden gem. The gardens are free but accept donations to help maintain the grounds. The volunteers are super friendly, knowledgeable and really care for this garden. I was amazed how well they have recovered from the damage cause by recent storms thanks...More

Just a simple garden with a lot of various things to look at. The history of what is left of the old fort is very cool.

They lost a lot to the hurricaine but were working steadily to replant and repair. It’s run by volunteers that take their positions very seriously. Listen to the whole spiel before wandering off lest you be severely chastised (as my husband was). Donate 5 bucks...More

One of my wife's favorite Key West Events. Seemed like there was at least 100 artists and plant sellers. The artists are creative with their jewelry and other products. Many different plants are for sale during this event. The old fort is the perfect background.
