We visited this island by ferry. The old 7 mile bridge is closed for construction so you cannot walk to Pigeon Key, you must take the ferry. The visitors center is neat and the staff is friendly! We saw some manatees in the bay on the way to the island. Once at the island, we took a tour with Eric... More

Stop at the Pigeon Key Visitors Center and learn a little history about the Florida East Coast Railway! Most of the Florida Keys owes its current existence to the railroad, which was wiped out by a hurricane in the 20's. Check out an original dining car from the Railway while you're there! Be sure to stop, and don't just blow... More

Take the Pigeon Key Ferry to Pigeon Key. Tour the island and learn about the railroad to the sea. Take a picnic lunch and enjoy the breeze.

My husband and I rode our bikes on the old bridge out to Pigeon Key and were disappointed to find that you can't get onto the island from the bridge. There is a ramp but it was closed down. Still a great bike ride. So we took the ferry to Pigeon Key another day. The ferry ride itself was fun,... More
