I am a local to the keys, and I definitely recommend this reef to anyone visiting! I've been to the reef many of times and I am enamored by the beauty each time. This reef is protected and has so many different types of ocean life. Great for snorkeling, Snuba, and Diving! The only downside is the typical mass amounts... More

Spent a 1/2 day snorkeling out on the reef. It was $25 each. Just incredible. Several snorkeling boats leave from Marathon. We went in April, the water was warm and the tropical fish were abundant. Nice scenic boat ride out to the reef. We all wore flotation vests while snorkeling to make it easier. It was a fun day....cant wait... More

Very good spot for snorkeling and very manageable, regardless of level or ability. Depending on winds, waves can be challenging, so attention to weather conditions is encouraged.

Actually, Sombrero Beach is the only beach you can go, get some tan, and swimim nicely around. The water is a bit cold but the beach is beuatiful and the water is amazing. You may also see some dolphins around as well.

Rented a boat but were only able to make it to it for two of the days out of the four that we had the boat due to winds/seas. All of the buoys are good. The rental boat had algae build up on the hull but the fish made quick work on cleaning it up as soon as your were... More

I used starfish for my snorkeling trip. The trip was good and we saw many different types of fish. The water was cloudy due to day's of high wind's. We went on a day the wind's got under 4 mph. You really need a few day's of calm sea's to get the clear water to see everything clearly. I saw... More

Lucky enough to have friends with a boat so we took a trip out to sombrero. Water was clear and fish were abundant! Kids had a blast! Allot of people take trips there so the earlier the better.

Although the Seas we a little bouncy when initially arriving at the Sombrero Reef and Lighthouse it was an amazing adventure that my Children [ages 15 & 12 - both Boys] will remember for the remainder of their lives, as will I... We took a chartered Snorkel Encounter with Spirit Snorkeling and had an amazing time...
