We happened upon this by accident and it was the highlight of our visit to Lake Placid. This small museum is packed with local memorabilia, like a scrapbook of past history. The best part was our "guide", a local veteran with intimate knowledge of, and connection to, much of the history contained therein. He is a treasure.

It was such a surprise to see this museum. There are several large rooms full of amazing artifacts. It is nicely laid out and labeled with interesting facts. The volunteer working that day was a native whose grandfather grew up in the area. He told several stories about some of the early settlers. I am not a history buff but... More

Beautiful displays of history right in the old train depot! It really is an excellent and eclectic collection spanning many years. A donation is not required but is suggested.

My husband and I were visiting Lake Placid early December, whilst we were looking at a railroad mural this sweet guy called Jerry came out of the Historical Museum and started talking to us. He asked if we wanted to have a look around the little museum, what a great little place filled with antiquities, including one of Jackie Kennedy's... More

The Historical Society Depot provides a good introduction to the major attraction of Lake Placid. A local volunteer is on hand to provide information and background and a short informative video is worth viewing.

Very interesting small museum. Not just rail road, but all kinds of old things. Well worth a visit. Even a small jail. Shows your age when they have things you remember using.

As you walk up to the museum you are welcomed by your own personal, knowledgeable tour guide. As you walk through the museum your quickly discover that the items on display depict more than the history of Lake Placid; it is also a historical tour of America in general. There are also some items on display that are not historical;... More

Some friends and I enjoyed an afternoon at the Lake Placid Museum. There was an elderly gent working there the day of our visit and he was a fountain of knowledge.. He had some sort of anecdotal comment or story about nearly every artifact and display item. He definitely made our visit very interesting. The Museum runs on donations so... More
