Long famous for its Key Marco Cat- one of the most remarkable and influential discoveries in North American archaeology- the new Marco Island Historical Museum explores Southwest Florida's Calusa Indians and bring this vanished civilization to life with informative displays and an exciting recreated village scene. Temporary and traveling exhibits trace the settlement of this subtropical island paradise from its early pioneer roots as a fishing village, pineapple plantation and clam cannery, through its explosive growth and development in the 1960s by the Miami-based Deltona Corporation.

We visited the Marco Island Museum in February while on holiday on the Island. This was our fourth visit to the Island but our first visit to the Museum. It was really worth the time to go there. The exhibits had been put together brilliantly. You really felt like you were going back in time. Now when I look out... More

Very interesting and informative. A must see museum. It's small but full of the wonderful history of the island. The artifacts and information about them are well written and display beautifully. They have a small gift shop with wonderful children's books, jewelry, and other lovely gifts.

Very informative for a small museum. Very well maintained and inviting. The gentleman docent was very friendly and knowledge...a true asset to your organization. We will return, there is a lot of good information there.

This is a small museum, but it is so well organized and the exhibits are so beautifully displayed, with so much information, that it is truly a jewel on the island. Definitely a informational place for people of all ages.

A small well done museum that is just what the Island needs. Plenty of parking. No admission fee but you can make a donation. Great recap of area history- long ago thru today. Nice and knowledgeable docents. Small gift shop.

They had just opened a new section on the early Indian settlers that was very well done. Interesting display on the clamming industry and the Mackle Brothers who developed the island in the 60's. It is amazing to think that most of the canals, homes, buildings and roads are less than 60 year old.

It was fun to see the history of Marco island. The displays are in good shape and the staff is friendly. Too bad the Marco Cat isn't in Marco but you get to see a recreation.
