This is an excellent place to learn about the fauna and flora that make up much of the barrier island on which the center is located. There are enough exhibits and interactive displays to easily engage visitors of virtually all ages for an hour or more. Some surprisingly cool stuff here.

I attending this place with my daughter's VPK class in September. An appointment was made in advance by the school to attend. Wow what a disappointment. We get there and no one is at the desk, no one hears a class of 15 kids in the building? We had to call the main number and tell them we were there.... More

We are the Barrier Island Sanctuary are so sorry that your experience at our education center was a disappointment. We rarely ever receive negative complaints from visitors especially from our visiting school groups. We work hard to create, improve and even test/evaluate our programs to ensure that children are having fun while learning the science standards provided by the State... More

This center is located in the Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge, which is the largest loggerhead sea turtle nesting area in the Western Hemisphere. The architecture of the center is splendid as is the research and educational efforts of its staff and visiting scientists. Great interactive exhibits to teach those of any age about the turtles as well as the... More

This Barrier Island Center is very popular with the locals. They offer classes and lots of information. Their knowledge of the big turtles is very impressive and in season, you can go down to the beach in front of the center and see the turtles tracks.

This is a great place to take the family to learn about Sea Turtles and other Florida barrier island wildlife and habitat. There are interactive kiosks and nice exhibits. The boardwalk to the beach is through scrub and mangrove habitat. The beach there is flat and inviting.

Went here to find out what the "Barrier Island Center" was all about, and discovered a plether of information provided. Hands on experience with various displays and exhibits, inter active activities for toddlers, and events set up through out the year. Definitely worth the drive down A1A to experience the center.

This is a fabulous place to stop and take time to learn about Florida sealife and the diverse habitats of a barrier island. Simply wonderful exhibits, interactive games, and live animals on display (e.g. turtles, fish). Free admission! Donations accepted and well worth it. You can also walk outside the center along a beautiful boardwalk to the water. The volunteer... More
