Overview
More
Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary is a 13,000 acre Preserve. The Sanctuary is open daily from 7-5:30 with last admission at 4:30 pm. Visitors will find a gentle, pristine wilderness that dates back more than 500 years. A 2.25 mile boardwalk meanders through pine flatwoods, wet prairie, around a marsh and finally into the largest old growth Bald Cypress forest in North America. These impressive trees, relatives of the redwood, tower 130 feet into the sky and have a girth of 25 feet. Their massive branches are draped with mosses, lichens, bromeliads and ferns. The forest is also home to alligators, otters, white-tailed deer and red-bellied turtles. A wide variety of wading birds, songbirds, raptors and the fabulous Painted Bunting can be seen throughout the year. Photo opportunities are available at every turn of the boardwalk trail.

We spent a morning walking through the trails and spotting some of the local fauna. We appreciated the silence and tranquility of the place.

Even though due to hurricane Irma only the short loop is open to visitors right now, we had a great time walking around the Swamp. We saw a lot of animals like alligators, egrets and raccoons. It was a great trip!

One of my favorite places in Naples, Florida. The boardwalk will take you deep in a forest full of birds and ancient trees. So relaxing and helps you to detox as well!

Yes, with supervision. The boardwalk has a railing throughout but as we've seen kids can sometimes overcome barriers if they're determined and not supervised. You might call the sanctuary for further guidance but I didn't... More

Not sure you really need one as they have volunteers stationed around the boardwalk that will help with sightings. They also offer tours. If you contact them they may have some independent guides they work with.
